Things are heating up as the MasterChef semi-finals kick off on BBC One on Tuesday, May 23. During the first of three episodes this week, the remaining eight hopefuls face the enormous challenge of mass catering for the Fire Service College in Gloucestershire.
The semi-finalists cook in teams for the first time in the competition. Each team will have just three and a half hours to cook and serve a feast for 120 of the emergency responders and trainers.
One of the chefs hoping to get their hands on the coveted MasterChef trophy is 28-year-old Robin, who is a Child Rights Officer who lives in Cardiff. Born in Crewe, he spent his childhood in Rome before coming back to the UK for university.

He cited his earliest cooking memory as “eggy bread as a kid”. “I’ve only really learnt how to cook well though since being with my girlfriend," he added. "She has great taste in food and our relationship has been a culinary journey. I love being able to create delicious dishes for her.”
Robin described how he entered MasterChef in the hope of taking himself out of his comfort zone in order to become a better chef. He added that his food dream was to open a potager garden cafe with his partner.
