The Food and Drug Administration has told a federal court in Louisiana that its safety review of the abortion pill mifepristone will continue into 2027. In a status report filed Oct. 7, government lawyers said the agency expects to receive study results by mid-December 2026 and to complete its review no later than March 2027, according to STAT's report on the court filing.
For now, nothing changes for patients. Under a Supreme Court order issued in May, mifepristone can still be prescribed through telehealth and sent by mail or picked up at pharmacies while the legal fight continues.
