On Friday night, rapper Kendrick Lamar suprised Soho House members with an intimate performance. It followed his last London show before the next leg of his world tour.
At 180 House, a branch of Soho House on The Strand, Kendrick invited British musician Sampha up onstage for an impromptu duet of their song Father Time.
Popular tracks Rich Spirit and Purple Hearts prompted the enthusiasm of the audience who sung the lyrics back to him. “That’s real cute,” he said as the crowd got involved.
“We’ve always gotta come a check the vibe of the city,” he said. “I hope y’all at the back are drunk as f***,” he added, to the laughter of the crowd.
But the unlucky members who weren’t at 180 House on Friday expressed disappointment. “Can’t believe I missed this!” a miffed member wrote on the club’s forum days later. “Were any members informed of this event?” another asked.
Singers Erykah Badu and Janet Jackson are among other big name musicians who have also hosted recent parties there, not that it’s easy, even for members, to get such a hot invite.
