Where to buy lateral flow tests as covid rates in Scotland soar for fifth week in a row

Covid infection rates in Scotland are currently soaring, with cases rising in the country for the fifth week in a row.

Around one in 18 people are now estimated to have the virus according to data from the Office for National Statistics. In the last full week of May, it was estimated that one in 50 Scots had the virus.

But the latest ONS figures showed that in the week ending June 24, an estimated 288,200 people in Scotland had Covid-19. This amounts to 5.47 per cent of the population in Scotland having the virus - the equivalent of around one in 18 people.

Since April, Lateral Flow Tests (LFTs) have no longer been free to access for the majority of the public. Only the following people can access LFT free of charge:

  • NHS health or social care workers
  • Those with a health condition which means they are eligible for new coronavirus treatments
  • Those going into hospital for surgery or a procedure
  • Hospital or care home visitors
  • Unpaid carers
  • People applying for the self-isolation support grant

For those that do not apply, you can purchase LFTs at a number of places. Most chemists stock LFTs as well as high street pharmacies such as Boots and Superdrug.

Tests are priced at anything from £1.89 for a single test to £50 for a pack of 25 tests. Sainsbury's supermarket also stocks LFTs which are available for purchase in store.
