The question you are really asking when you ask about his weekend
When he tells you what he did on Saturday, you are not cataloguing his hobbies. You are watching how he talks about his own time. Does he sound like someone who chose those hours, or someone who filled them? There is a difference between a man who says he went for a drive because he wanted to think, and one who says he went for a drive because there was nothing else to do. The words are almost identical. The instinct you are running is not. You are screening for agency, whether he is someone who moves through his own life with intention, or someone who waits for the next thing to happen to him. A man who drifts through his own Saturdays will drift through yours too.
