Arsenal's top four hopes have taken a battering after they succumbed to a tepid 2-0 defeat to Newcastle at St. James Park in the Premier League.
The Gunners went into the game knowing they needed to win after Tottenham's victory over Burnley on Sunday, but started awfully and barely got out of their own half in the first period.
Things did improve briefly with the introduction of Gabriel Martinelli, but they found themselves behind when Ben White turned into his own net.

From that point on Arsenal never really looked like scoring at all, let alone scoring two. A second for Newcastle always looked more likely, and it was hardly a surprise when Bruno Guimaraes hammered home after Aaron Ramsdale couldn't smother a through ball.
The result means that the Gunners are now hoping for a slip up from fierce rivals Spurs against already relegated Norwich on the final day of the season.
If you can stomach them, here are some of the moments football.london noticed that you may have missed in the game.
Newcastle fans taunt Gunners
Every Arsenal fan knew how big a game this was for them, and it seems they weren't the only ones. On paper Newcastle have nothing to play for, but you wouldn't have known that from the atmosphere at St. James' Park.
The Geordie fans were electric throughout, buoyed on by their team's performance, while the Gunners, despite ample support from their away fans, appeared to wilt under the pressure.
As one-time Arsenal target Bruno Guimaraes smashed home the second the Magpies fans stood up in unison to taunt the Gunners with a cruel chant of 'Champions League? You're having a laugh'. Hard to disagree off the back of this showing.
Ramsdale heads in early from warm up
This is not a game that Aaron Ramsdale will want to remember for too long. Early on he nearly surrendered a goal to a high press from Miguel Almiron in a similar manner to how Eddie Nketiah scored against Leeds.
While the England did go on to make a couple of important saves, his distribution was awful throughout, contrary to how good it's been all season, and he looked jittery on the night.
In the Arsenal warm up prior to the game it was spoot that Bernd Leno and third choice keeper Arthur Okonkwo stood up to save shots from the Gunners' attackers instead of Ramsdale. Rather than any injury problems though this is the 23-year-old's pre-match routine as he looks to spend some time on his own to focus ahead of games. Sadly it didn't do the trick on the night.
What Arteta said in his team talk
Arsenal have had a tough time with injuries lately with Gabriel, Ben White, Kieran Tierney and Thomas Partey all having their problems. Another has suffered is Takehiro Tomiyasu.
The Japan international has missed four months of this season with calf problems, and went down with what appeared to be a hamstring injury in this one.
Mikel Arteta thought he'd use that as a chance for an impromptu team talk, calling over all the Gunners player to the touchline. He appeared to be telling them about where he wanted Aaron Ramsdale's goal kicks to be going, getting them to focus on the left side of the pitch with a bit more accuracy. Whatever he said didn't work though Arsenal failed to ever really get control of the match.
