What happened when Leicester City and Nottingham Forest last met in Premier League

Nottingham Forest travel to Leicester City on Monday evening in the first East Midlands derby of the 2022/23 season.

Both teams have started their Premier League campaigns poorly, occupying 19th and 20th in the table. However the Reds are three points above City going into the crunch clash at the King Power Stadium.

It's the first time the two sides will meet in a league fixture since 2013 and marks the first Premier League game between the pair since May 1999. NottinghamshireLive has looked back on the last time the side's met in the top flight.

By the time Martin O'Neill brought his Leicester side to the City Ground on the final day for the 1998/99 season, Ron Atkinson had already failed to keep the Reds in the Premier League after replacing Dave Bassett in January.

However, wins over Sheffield Wednesday and Blackburn Rovers had handed them their first back-to-back victories of the season and they made it three against the Foxes courtesy of Chris Bart-Williams' 76 minute goal.

The Foxes were unlucky not to rescue a point in the closing stages of the game, with Theo Zagorakis and Muzzy Izzet both being denied by Mark Crossley.

Earlier in the campaign, it was a different story at Filbert Street. Goals from Emile Heskey, Matt Elliott and Steve Guppey ensured City came from behind to win 3-1 after Pierre van Hooijdonk put the Reds ahead.

Since then, there has been 18 meetings, with the Foxes winning only five. Last season's 4-1 FA Cup triumph was a high-point, alongside 2009's 5-1 win under Billy Davies. Forest have not suffered defeat against Leicester the 2013 final day heartbreak that lifted Nigel Pearson's men into the play-offs at the Reds' expense.

Nottingham Forest: Crossley; Louis-Jean, Chettle, Rogers; Bart-Williams, Bonalair, Melton, Palmer, Porfirio (Edwards '89); Freedman, Harewood

Leicester City: Arphexad; Elliott, Kamark, Sinclair (Walsh '70); Guppy, Lennon, Izzet, Oakes (Heskey '50), Savage, Zagorakis' Cottee
