The new tourney, which will take place as part of the league’s regular season save for the title and consolation games to be played in Las Vegas, Nevada, does not guarantee a playoff spot or confer anything of value — though it does have cash prizes for the winning team and the runner-up franchise.
This has caused many to speculate as to whether the tournament is a positive change for the sport, particularly given the seeming lack of purpose and meaningful impact on the season or playoffs.
