Westlife singer launches High Court claim against surgeon after health complications

  • Westlife singer Mark Feehily has filed a High Court medical negligence claim against bariatric surgeon Nick Carter over severe complications following a weight-loss operation performed in August 2020.
  • Legal papers allege that Mr Carter failed to remove sufficient stomach tissue during a laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy, causing a leak that resulted in severe abdominal infections and recurrent sepsis.
  • The ongoing health complications forced the 46-year-old Irish singer to undergo a full gastrectomy in 2023 to remove his entire stomach, ultimately leading to his hiatus from the pop group in February 2024.
  • Law firm Leigh Day Solicitors confirmed they are representing Feehily in the ongoing legal proceedings, while Mr Carter has denied any negligence regarding the procedure.
  • The legal action coincides with Westlife continuing their 25th anniversary world tour as a trio, celebrating a career that includes over 55 million record sales and 14 UK number-one singles.
