Just over a decade ago, Charlie Maher took the biggest leap of faith of his life to date, trusting a stranger who was determined to see him run a marathon.
That stranger was former Olympic athlete Rob de Castella, Australia's most successful marathon runner.
Deek, as he is often known, was in the midst of establishing the Indigenous Marathon Project, with the goal of training a group of First Nations Australians for the New York Marathon.
