With the latest strike action set to hit West Lothian schools tomorrow the council’s executive has agreed an £18,000 plan to ensure that primary children who receive free school meals are still fed during industrial action.
This week’s strike will only impact secondary pupils but the executive agreed on Tuesday to a formula that will give parents £3 per pupil per school meal- similar to the set up created during the school closures in the pandemic lockdowns.
A report to the executive said: “Council executive has previously approved contingency arrangements for whole school closures or class groups as a consequence of Covid 19 restrictions whereby a payment of £3 per pupil per school was made to families and young people eligible for free school meals; and to P1 to P5 pupils in receipt of school clothing grant.”
