Uphall gymnast Shannon Archer has created history by becoming the first Scottish woman to secure an artistic gymnastics medal at the Commonwealth Games.
The 24-year-old held her nerves to bag a bronze medal in the women’s vault final.
Shannon, who finished eighth in the all-around final yesterday, was the final gymnast. A -0.3 penalty on her first vault meant she had to produce a near-perfect second vault to climb into the top three which she duly did.
Her second vault score of 12.900 was the highest in the final and was enough to propel her above Canada’s Emma Spence and into third place with an overall score of 13.083.
Australia’s Georgia Goodwin and Canada’s Lauren Denommee took silver and bronze.
Shannon was also part of the Team Scotland squad that finished sixth in the team event on Saturday.
And she might not be finished on the medal front, either, as she is due to compete in the uneven bars final later today.
