West Lothian College students set to host fun day to support Ukrainian orphans

Health and social care students at West Lothian College are holding a fun day to help children who have fled the war in Ukraine.

The class is holding a fun day in the college on Thursday, June 2 for orphans from Dnipro and their carers after they were brought over from Ukraine a few weeks ago and are now living in Edinburgh.

The students have organised transport, a bouncy castle and inflatables, face painting, character mascots, singers, arts and crafts and they are hoping to have a small open shop table of clothing.

But they are appealing to people to help them by donating food and snacks for the day and goody bag items for the 60 children.

Student Claire Kirby said: “We have been let down by people who said they would do food and cakes for the day. I am now trying to reach out to people to ask for help of donations of food and cakes and snacks, etc for on the day.

“I am also trying to get donations of items for goodie bags for the 60 children aged between preschool and 18 and the eight house mothers that came across with the children from the orphanage where they lived in Ukraine.

“I understand most people are struggling just now with the cost of living but every little bit helps. If it gives these kids one fun day to remember and forget their troubles for one day I will be extremely happy.”
