‘Well done’ - Simon Jordan praises Newcastle United for firm Anthony Gordon approach

Simon Jordan has lauded Newcastle United for not bowing down to Everton’s hefty demands. ChronicleLive understands the Toffees have slapped a £60million price tag on Anthony Gordon.

The 21-year-old has not reported for training duty in three days, although the first of those was due to a pre-agreed absence. Gordon was expected to turn up at the Finch Farm training ground on Thursday morning but he failed to show up.

Everton are believed to be resigned to the prospect of losing the winger after staving off interest in the summer. Wage demands are not expected to be an issue but Toon chiefs have reservations over the transfer fee.

Stumping up £60million for Gordon would make him the fourth-highest English transfer of all time despite never receiving a senior international call-up. So far, the Magpies have held firm, earning praise from former Crystal Palace owner Jordan.

“Well done Newcastle, by the way,” he told talkSPORT. “They don't have to bend and Everton need the money. Everton are going to try and jack the transfer price up but it is good that Newcastle are not running to spend as much money as people anticipated.

“They’re spending decent money and buying decent players, but they're doing it in a way that is more holistic. That sounds a bit ridiculous when you're spending £200million in two transfer windows, but they could go harder and higher and do what they want. But they are going to pay what people are worth - it's nice to see.”
