Weight Loss Supplement Recalled Nationwide After Lab Testing Found an Antidepressant and a Toxic Industrial Chemical

A weight loss supplement sold directly to consumers online has been recalled nationwide after federal laboratory testing found two hidden drug ingredients in it, neither of which appeared on the label. One is a prescription antidepressant. The other is an industrial chemical that the Food and Drug Administration has not approved for any use.

Ana Salazar Modela Tu Cuerpo Inc., based in Davie, Florida, announced on August 27 that it is recalling Lipofit Extreme Fat Burner 2.0, lot 25M12F, expiration date 09/2027, to the consumer level. The FDA posted the announcement four days later. Agency laboratory analysis found undeclared fluoxetine in the daytime tablets and undeclared 2,4-dinitrophenol, known as DNP, in the nighttime tablets. The product was marketed as a dietary supplement and distributed in the United States directly to individual consumers through online sales.
