Wayne Rooney has already told Chelsea what to expect from imminent January transfer arrival

Derby County boss Wayne Rooney has been hugely complimentary of youngster Dylan Williams amid his move from Pride Park to Chelsea.

It has already been confirmed that the 18-year-old is set to sign for the Blues due to the horrendous financial situation at the east Midlands club.

Ahead of the Rams taking on rivals Nottingham Forest, Rooney confirmed that the deal was in the pipeline.

He said: "We have agreed a fee with a Premier League club, still getting finalised as we speak, for Dylan Williams.

"It is one where I felt I couldn't deny him the opportunity, so that is my decision, not an administrator's decision.” Rooney added.

"It was my decision after speaking to the player, I felt I couldn't deny a young lad an opportunity of going to play in the Premier League."

That aforementioned Premier League club was then revealed to have been Chelsea, giving supporters a new name to research ahead of the deadline.

If Rooney’s assessment of Williams’ full Derby league debut is anything to go by, then most should be left under no illusions that the youngster will be capable of making the step-up to the top-flight.

Speaking after a 0-0 draw with West Bromwich Albion back in September, the former Manchester United man said: "I thought he was excellent.

"To come to West Brom, top of the league, a difficult team to play against, and so the biggest compliment I can give him is putting him in for this game, his first league start, and he didn't let anyone down."

Williams has now gone on to rack up nine professional appearances for Derby ahead of his switch to Stamford Bridge.

It is expected that he will go straight into the youth ranks at Cobham as a potential star of the future.
