Waterloo Road's Adam Thomas called a 'gent' as he repays Sainsbury's staff for his supermarket habit

Adam Thomas has been praised by his fans as he did a good deed over the weekend. The former Emmerdale actor headed to his local Sainsbury's and decided to pay the staff back - before revealing it as compensation for his supermarket habit.

He shared a video to his Instagram Story which showed him buying lottery tickets, only to give them back to the staff working in the Greater Manchester store. One of the first employees appeared to be taken aback, laughing and refusing to take the ticket before asking: "Are you sure?"

Others also appeared surprised a graciously accepted Adam's gesture. "When you're at your local shop and find out the lottery jackpot is £191 million," he wrote across his video. "Thought I'd treat the staff to a few lucky dips," he explained with many sure to be hoping their luck would come in.

He set the video to Hot Chocolate's track Every 1's a Winner and added in the caption to his millions of followers: "When £191 million is up for grabs, you have to spread your bets…," he penned alongside a string of crying laughing emojis. He went on: "What a great bunch of people!"

Adam, who is due to reprise his role as Donte Charles in Waterloo Road this year, then shared what the staff in the store have to put up with when he visits. "Shop here all the time and they got the best energy and always smiling," he said. "Thanks for putting up with me … specially when I eat half the shop before I’ve even payed for it haha."

But he did also say in the video: "But if we won... we had to split it... no matter how much or how little!" Adam then disclosed that a week later, on his next trip to Sainsbury's, he discovered that one of the tickets was a winner and he and the three members of staff bagged £2 each.

The video showed one of the stagg members dividing the coins before they gave a cheers with their winnings as if to clink glasses. "Love moments like this," Adam said before returning home and giving his son, Teddy, his winnings. However, Adam revealed that he hadn't yet cashed in his ticket.

"I lost it," he said in the written caption on the clip. "Or have I?" he then teased. Despite his little confession, fans were quick to praise Adam for his sweet gesture. @nishascookingagain said: "What a good heart you have Adam." @mljonesmj replied: "What A Gent." @louiseenterkin shared: "This is so nice!! How kind.

@shelleybabe50 commented: "What lovely thing to do." @leanne0285 wrote: "This is bl**dy brilliant." @judehudson49 added: "Brilliant act of kindness, well done @adamthomas21 plus a wins a win right?"
