Watch: Viral video of Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan's playful banter

NEW DELHI: In a light-hearted moment that has taken social media by storm, a viral video captured the playful camaraderie between former Pakistan skipper Babar Azam and wicket-keeper Mohammad Rizwan.

The video showcased Babar humorously chasing Rizwan with his bat raised, creating a hilarious scene that has entertained fans across social media platforms.

Here's what happened in the video

The amusing sequence unfolded with Babar leaving the crease after the ball had reached the keeper Rizwan behind the stumps. Rizwan promptly threw the ball to the stumps, and appealed for a run-out to the leg umpire.

Seizing the opportunity for a cheeky act, Babar ran towards Rizwan with his bat raised, mimicking an attempt to hit him. As Rizwan retreated behind the stumps to avoid the playful threat, the umpire was seen putting the bails back on the stumps, adding to the laughter-inducing scenario.

Pakistan cricket in transition

This light-hearted moment comes at a time of transition for the Pakistan cricket team.

Following the World Cup disappointment, Babar Azam announced his resignation as Pakistan's captain, expressing it as a difficult decision but the right time for the call.

Babar affirmed his commitment to continue representing Pakistan as a player across all three formats.

New captains for Pakistan teams

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) promptly named Shan Masood as the new Test captain, entrusting him with the leadership role through the World Test Championship cycle of 2023-25.

Masood's inaugural assignment as captain will be Pakistan's upcoming tour to Australia, featuring three Test matches.

Left-arm fast bowler Shaheen Afridi was appointed as the T20 captain, with Pakistan gearing up for a five-match T20 series in New Zealand in January, following the Australia tour.

The PCB has indicated that the new ODI skipper will be announced in due course.

Meanwhile, Babar thanked PCB

In his parting statement, Babar Azam thanked the PCB for selecting him as the all-format captain four years ago. He expressed his commitment to support the new captain and the team, bringing his experience and dedication to contribute positively to Pakistan cricket.
