The Washington Commanders have a new owner. So there’s newfound excitement surrounding the team heading into the 2023 NFL season.
Another reason Washington fans are excited is second-year quarterback Sam Howell. While the rest of the NFL or NFL media may not be too high on Howell at the moment, Washington coaches, players and fans are.
Through three days of training camp, Howell has made some excellent throws. He’s also fitting the ball into tight windows, which is critical to success in the NFL.
Per Washington’s official social media accounts, here are two throws that stand out from the first week of training camp.
Here’s one to running back Brian Robinson Jr. in the end zone. While the pass wouldn’t have been ruled complete, it was a tremendous throw that showed Howell’s arm strength and accuracy to a specific location.

Then there is this one to Terry McLaurin. This was reminiscent of Howell’s big completion to McLaurin in Washington’s Week 18 win over the Cowboys.

It’s July, folks. So, of course, none of this matters. But Howell can sling it, and he has a massive opportunity in front of him when the Commanders have practice with the Ravens this summer.
