Rising property taxes are quietly pushing many retirees to the financial breaking point, especially in areas where home values have surged over the past few years. Some seniors living on fixed incomes now face tax bills that rival a monthly mortgage payment, even if they fully own their homes. Washington State offers one of the more generous relief programs in the country, allowing certain low-income seniors, disabled residents, and qualifying veterans to exempt up to 60% of their home’s assessed value or at least $60,000 from taxation.
