Warriors star Steph Curry out at least two more weeks with shoulder injury

SAN FRANCISCO — The Warriors won’t have Stephen Curry for at least two more weeks as he continues to nurse a shoulder injury.

Curry, who partially dislocated his left, non-dominant shoulder while trying to strip the ball from Pacers center Jalen Smith in a Dec. 14 loss, was recently re-evaluated by the team’s medical staff and was said to be making “good progress,” the team said in a statement Saturday morning.

Curry has been able to do some work in the weight room and put up shots Friday and Saturday morning, coach Steve Kerr said.

“He’s progressing well, but still a ways away from playing in a game,” Kerr said. “Everything seems to be going pretty smoothly.”

He’ll be re-assessed in two weeks, so he’ll be due for another update around Jan. 7. That means Curry will miss at least seven more games, including the Warriors’ Christmas Day clash against the Memphis Grizzlies. Andrew Wiggins (strained thigh muscle) and JaMychal Green (health and safety protocols) will also be shelved for that 2022 Western Conference semifinals rematch Sunday. Meanwhile, Donte DiVincenzo is feeling better and expected to be back in the Warriors’ rotation after missing back-to-back games in New York.

The Warriors are 1-6 without Curry this season and have gotten off to a rough 15-18 record overall. They’re facing an uphill battle without Curry over the next two-plus weeks as he had been their lone lifeline for most of the season so far. Four of the Warriors’ next seven games are against teams with above-.500 records. That includes the 20-11 Grizzlies, who share first place of the Western Conference with the Denver Nuggets.
