Sabalenka reflects on how top spot came her way unexpectedly

It didn't quite go to plan for Aryna Sabalenka, but the world No.1 ranking is hers all the same, come Monday. Sabalenka, who put out Daria Kasatkina 6-1, 6-3 to advance to the US Open quarterfinals, had an accession plan. The 25-year-old told a capacity crowd at the Arthur Ashe stadium that she had hoped to play Iga Swiatek in a winner-takes-it-all affair on Saturday at Flushing Meadows.
