Volkswagen is recalling 22,524 ID.4 crossovers in the United States because certain high-voltage batteries can overheat and catch fire during charging. The automaker still has not found the root cause.
Until it does, Volkswagen is telling owners of affected 2023 through 2026 ID.4 models built in that window to stop charging above 80 percent capacity. The company says a permanent fix is still under development.
