James Bond is famous for ordering his martinis "shaken, not stirred." Three British doctors once offered a far less glamorous explanation for that habit: by their count, 007 may have been drinking too much to stir a drink at all.
Their analysis, published in The BMJ's 2013 Christmas issue, tallied every drink across Ian Fleming's 14 original Bond books. On days he was free to drink, the spy averaged 92 UK alcohol units a week. Converted to American measures, that comes to about 53 standard drinks a week, or roughly seven and a half a day.
