Vile thug facing jail after spitting on custody officer's face at Paisley Sheriff Court

A vile thug who spat on a custody officer who was taking him into court has been warned he is facing jail time.

Disgusting Stefan Tipau spat on custody officer Daniel Monger’s face on May 19 after he had been transported from custody at Greenock police station to Paisley Sheriff Court.

Tipau, 20, appeared at the town’s court from custody and admitted committing the vile assault while he was subject to four separate bail orders.

Fiscal depute Dana Barclay told the court: “On Thursday, May 19, the witness Monger and Jones started their shift with GeoAmey operating as custody officers.

“They were tasked with uplifting people in custody at Greenock and transporting them to Paisley Sheriff Court.

“The witnesses met the accused at Greenock and he was placed in a celled custody vehicle.

“Around 9.30am, upon arrival at Paisley Sheriff Court, the accused began to spit in the cell and he was asked to stop but failed to desist.

“Tipau was then taken to the Sheriff Court custody suite and at this time he spat at the witness Monger, with the spit landing on his right cheek.

“He was thereafter cautioned and charged by police and intimated that he understood, and replied, ‘So what,’ while shrugging his shoulders.”

Defence agent Tom Williamson made no motion for bail and requested background reports .

Sheriff Eoin McGinty said: “I will defer sentencing as I have to do, and that’s both given your age and the fact you’ve not been to prison before, for the preparation of reports.

“I have to indicate however, despite the fact I’m calling for reports, you must prepare yourself - given the seriousness of this - for a custodial sentence.

“And when you say, ‘So what’ well, this is what happens.

“You’ll remain remanded meantime.”

Sheriff McGinty adjourned sentencing for a criminal justice social work report until July 14.
