Viewers hit out at Maya Jama's 'Scottish accent' during Jonathan Ross Show slot

Love Island presenter Maya Jama found herself under fire from TV viewers after her attempt at a Scottish accent on The Jonathan Ross Show.

The host was among those to take umbrage with the Bristol native's impression as she joined other celebrities on the popular Saturday night programme.

The 28-year-old presenter joined One Direction star Niall Horan on the famous sofa alongside Bake Off's Prue Leith where she attempted various accents before trying her hand at speaking the Scottish tongue, reports the Daily Record.

She turned to Niall Horan and attempted an impressive Irish accent, before adding: "I can do Scott-ash!'

Jonathan Ross laughed: "Scott-ash?

She then said, in the same accent: "Are ye crazy? An Angus burger! Are ye crazy?"

And the host, clearly not impressed by her attempt, replied: "You talk like that and Lewis Capaldi is going to phone me and bollock me!"

The audience erupted into laughter, but some fans weren't best pleased with her attempt, with one writing on Twitter: "‘Scottash’ Someone needs to tell Maya Jama that it’s ‘ScottISH’. and we don’t tend to shout about Angus burgers. #JonathanRoss."

While one said Maya made them laugh, commenting: " @MayaJama absolutely brilliant laugh on #Jonathanross nice to see someone being themselves."

While one added: "I want to be friends with @MayaJama she’s great #TheJRShow."

Chat then turned to Lewis Capaldi who is best mates with Niall, with the pair even filming a BBC docuseries together travelling around Niall's Irish hometown.

The pair then spoke about Niall's new album and Jonathan asked him who he runs his stuff by before releasing it and the Irish singer said his mate Lewis and also Ed Sheeran.

He said: "Lewis or Ed Sheeran if he's about or whatever... because they are so used to releasing stuff all the time."

Jonathan replied: "I imagine Lewis Capaldi is pretty straight forward?"

Niall laughed, then replied in Lewis's Scottish accent: "'Yeah man I've got a f***ing sneaky feeling about this one!'"

Jonathan then asked about the pair, who were meant to tour together before the pandemic and Niall replied: "I'm glad we never, I would have needed a new liver!"

Maya chimed in: "I partied with Lewis before and I feel like he's on my level of going for it!"

Niall laughed: "Yeah, he's a different league!"

"We've written a couple of things together, but there's obviously a reason that they've never seen the light of day!"
