Vice President Kamala Harris' campaign team has swiftly initiated outreach efforts towards various youth grassroots organizations following President Joe Biden's decision to withdraw from the race. Voters of Tomorrow, a prominent youth voting grassroots organization, confirmed that they had engaged in discussions with Harris' campaign shortly after Biden's announcement.
Santiago Mayer, the executive director of Voters of Tomorrow, expressed enthusiasm about Vice President Harris' commitment to the youth vote. Mayer stated, 'We're incredibly excited to mobilize our efforts, engage in door-to-door outreach, initiate meaningful conversations, and emphasize the significance of this election to young voters. Our goal is to ensure that Vice President Harris is elected as Madam President Harris come November.'
Notably, Eve Levenson, the national youth engagement director for Harris' campaign, is set to participate in the upcoming Voters of Tomorrow Summit in Atlanta. The summit will bring together hundreds of youth activists, content creators, and grassroots organizations to deliberate on the upcoming November election.
According to CNN's recent polling data on potential matchups between Biden or Harris against Trump, Harris demonstrates stronger appeal among young voters compared to Biden. However, Harris still falls short of garnering the same level of support that Democratic presidential candidates have historically received.
Katy Gates, president of the College Democrats of Georgia, highlighted the excitement within the Democratic Party's youth members regarding the prospect of Harris' nomination. Gates emphasized the significance of potentially electing the first woman president, a milestone that resonates deeply with many young individuals.
Furthermore, Gen Z for Change, previously known as TikTok for Biden, has transitioned its support to Harris after expressing criticism towards Biden in recent months. The organization confirmed that Harris' campaign has also engaged with them in outreach efforts.
As of now, the Harris campaign has not provided a response to CNN's inquiries on these developments.
