New Delhi: Samajwadi Party (SP) Chief Akhilesh Yadav on Monday accused the BJP of inciting violence in Sambhal to divert the people's attention from the alleged electoral malpractices in the recently-concluded Uttar Pradesh bypoll.

Talking to reporters outside Parliament, SP Lok Sabha MP said: "The incident is very unfortunate, our MP Ziaur Rahman Barq was not in Sambhal, despite this an FIR was registered against him. From all the videos we have, we know it was a riot orchestrated by the govt. The state government was looting votes. They orchestrated violence in Sambhal in order to hide the electoral malpractices in the recently-concluded Uttar Pradesh bypoll."

"On November 19, 2024, after the court passed the order the police and the administration reached Jama Masjid within hours and that too without reading the order and all the Mosque members cooperated with them. On November 23, the police administration said that a second survey would be conducted the next morning. My question is, who gave the order to the police administration to conduct the second survey?," the former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister added.

Security has been heightened near the Shahi Jama Masjid in the area to maintain order and prevent any escalation of violence following the initial incident of ruckus and violence in Sambhal in which four peole were killed.
Internet services have been suspended for 24 hours on Monday and administration also declared a holiday for schools following the violence over the survey of a mosque.
