Three children missing after day at Thorpe Park found 'safe and well' in London

Three children reported missing after a trip to Thorpe Park have been found “safe and well” in London, Surrey Police confirmed on Tuesday afternoon.

Khandi, 14, met with two younger children Amelia, nine, and Malik, seven, at the theme park on “on a planned day out” on Monday, the force said, but the trio were reported missing at 7pm.

Surrey Police said the children, who all know one another, travelled from Surrey to Milton Keynes before they were found in London.

North Surrey Detective Superintendent Trevor Struthers said: “We appreciate the concern that this incident caused, especially given the children’s ages and the fact that they were missing overnight.

“Our officers and staff have worked tirelessly to locate the three of them and we are all relieved that they have been found safe.

“We have received a huge amount of information and support from both the public and the media and we would like to thank everyone who provided information and shared our appeal.”

An urgent search was launched after the trio were seen walking away from the park towards Staines town centre around 3.17pm.

CCTV obtained by MailOnline appeared to show the children walking into a florist shop in Chertsey and asking for directions to the nearest train station at 3.50pm on Monday.

Khandi appeared to speak to staff while Amelia and Malik wandered around the House of Flowers store. The two younger children are related.

Their disappearance came after riders were stuck on board Hyperia for an hour at the theme park on Saturday, according to the BBC.

The ride opened on May 24 and is the UK's tallest and fastest rollercoaster.

Last Monday the Liberal Democrats leader paid a visit to the theme park.

Sir Ed Davey could be seen spinning in a teacup ride following the launch of the Lib Dem manifesto, where he called politics a “rollercoaster ride”.
