The most prominent media outlets in Uganda remain unable to operate after the army chief, Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the son of President Museveni and his likely successor, ordered the military shutdown on Sunday of the country's largest media group's headquarters in Kampala. The move has drawn widespread criticism.

The Federation of African Journalists (FAJ) has condemned what it called a flagrant attack on media freedom, demanding the "immediate reopening of these media houses".
