Tyne Valley bikers dodge missiles to deliver teddies for Ukrainian kids to cuddle this Christmas

After a 3,000km journey across Europe, this week two motorbikers from the Tyne Valley dodged missiles as they hand-delivered a packaged of 800 teddy bears to children in an Ukrainian orphanage.

Angus Charlton, 57, and Hedley Smith, 58, are lifelong friends and both now live in southern Spain. They run a YouTube channel devoted to their adventures - and another expat in Spain, Marie Cuskers-McCarthy contacted them with a unique proposition: Could they take as many teddies as possible to Ukraine on their bikes?

The answer was yes - and after vacuum-packing as many bears as possible, they set off on the journey - which took them six days of riding eight hours each day. They arrived at the Ukrainian border on Monday, and classed as delivering humanitarian aid, they were able to cross and head towards Lviv.
