Tyler Adams to Leeds United transfer latest: RB Leipzig boss says star 'has said his goodbyes'

Leeds United will be putting much of their focus in the transfer market this week towards signing a new midfielder. With Kalvin Phillips’ move to Manchester City completed on Monday, the Whites will be keen to recruit a replacement swiftly to ensure whoever comes in can get a strong pre-season under their belt.

One player on Leeds' list of targets is RB Leipzig’s Tyler Adams, who has worked with current Leeds boss Jesse Marsch twice before. Adams is to be allowed to leave Leipzig this summer after falling down the pecking order and reports over a move to West Yorkshire for USMNT captain have grown stronger in recent days.

So with that in mind, we have rounded up all the latest regarding a potential deal.

Adams 'has said goodbye'

RB Leigzig boss Domenico Tedesco is reported as saying that Tyler Adams has said his goodbyes to his teammates, amid claims that the midfielder will fly to the UK for his medical on Tuesday.

"He said goodbye to the team on Monday. The topic is finished,” Tedesco said, as per RB Live.

“He was very liked here; he is a really good player and fine character, the farewell hurts.

“If a player is unhappy with his playing time, we have an extremely large number of players in the centre, then you have to understand him and fulfil his wish.”

This came after The Athletic reported that Adams will fly to the UK later on Tuesday and that the club hope his £20million move will be completed before the club fyl to Australia for their pre-season tour this weekend.

Talks at 'advanced' stage

Talks with Tyler Adams are at an advanced stage as Leeds United look to swiftly fill the hole left by Kalvin Phillips ahead of Sunday’s flight to Australia. The American has spent the summer on Victor Orta’s midfielder shortlist and with the way now cleared by Phillips, the wheels are in motion on a transfer.

The Whites hope to land the 23-year-old on a permanent transfer from RB Leipzig before Jesse Marsch takes the squad Down Under for more than two weeks. Phillips’s transfer to Manchester City was confirmed on Monday morning and within a few hours, the button was pushed on Adams.

Adams deal progressing

Leeds United’s pursuit of Red Bull Leipzig midfielder Tyler Adams is ‘progressing quickly’ according to journalist Ben Jacobs. He claims that Adams is very keen on the move and a deal now could be done for as little as £10 million following Xavier Schlager’s arrival at Leipzig.

Leeds are in the market for a new holding midfielder with Kalvin Phillips’ move to Manchester City likely to be confirmed today. There have also been links to RB Salzburg’s Mohamed Camara, with Austrian outlets claiming a deal is close to completion.

Everton in Adams race

Everton have joined Leeds United in the race to sign Red Bull Leipzig midfielder Tyler Adams. That is according to BILD, who claim that the Toffees and Leeds are keen on a deal that could cost between €15 and €20 million.

Jesse Marsch’s side are in the market for a new holding midfielder this summer, with Kalvin Phillips’ move to Manchester City expected to be confirmed on Monday. Adams is among the players on Leeds’ list of potential replacements and according to other reports, could be available on loan.

Leipzig open to loan deal

Leeds United target Tyler Adams could be allowed to leave RB Leipzig on loan this summer, according to the Athletic, with reports claiming there is a ‘fair possibility’ of the midfielder moving to Elland Road. Adams is one of several central midfielders being monitored as the club look to replace Kalvin Phillips, who is set for Manchester City.

The 23-year-old has fallen out of favour at Leipzig under Domenico Tedesco, making 12 starts in the Bundesliga last season and just five since the turn of the year. He is open to a move away from the German club after four seasons, and the Athletic’s report suggests the club could be open to allowing their man to move on a temporary basis with the view to make that permanent in the future.

Leeds ‘exploring Adams possibility’

Tyler Adams is likely to leave RB Leipzig this summer amid speculation over a move to Leeds United - one of many teams ‘exploring this possibility’, according to Fabrizio Romano. Adams has been linked with a move to Elland Road after falling down the pecking order at his current club, and the 23-year-old has ‘been connected’ with the Whites on several occasions.

Adams has attracted interest across Europe from Sevilla and Benfica but could prefer a reunion with Jesse Marsch, who gave Adams his professional debut for New York Red Bulls in 2015. The Whites boss is keen to strengthen the midfield area, and is looking to add further reinforcements following the imminent signing of Bayern Munich midfielder Marc Roca.
