Oman's Bar, on the corner of Peffer Street and Peffer Place, released a statement on a public Facebook community page at the time of the incident.
Owners of the pub posted: "We’re sure by now everyone is aware (due to the whole road being closed for 4 hours) of the fire in one of the flats above the pub tonight.
"We just want to let our neighbours know that if there’s anything we can do at all to give us a shout.
"Aware after speaking to the firemen that a few flats are going to be inhabitable for a while so if anyone requires storage or anything along they lines we have the space and are more than happy to help."
Emergency services confirmed that two people were taken to hospital as a result of the blaze. Their condition is unknown at the time of writing.
