Two boys seriously injured at private school in Devon

A 16-year-old has been arrested after two students and a third person were seriously assaulted at a Devon boarding school overnight.

Police were called to Blundell’s School in Tiverton at roughly 1am on Friday and found three people seriously injured.

They were rushed to hospital for treatment.

A 16-year-old boy from Tiverton has been arrested on suspicion of three counts of causing grievous bodily harm with intent, Devon and Cornwall Police said.

He remains in police custody.

All parties involved are linked to the school, police said.

Superintendent Antony Hart, Local Policing Commander said: “This is a very traumatic incident for those involved and the wider school community and we will continue to work closely with the school, providing support to those involved.

“I am keen to reassure the community that there is no wider risk, and we are not seeking anyone else in relation to this matter.

“Throughout the day we will continue with searches and enquiries in the vicinity of the school while we are in the early stage of our investigation.”

Parents were told in a letter that there would a police presence around Petergate, one of the school’s boarding houses, “for some time”, the BBC is reporting.

Head of the school Bart Wielenga told parents in the letter that he would be addressing pupils and support would be available, according to the BBC.

Blundell’s School told the Standard it would not be commenting at this time.

Senior students pay £41,325 a year to board at the school, according to the website.
