Tunnock’s sending Ryan Gosling batch of teacakes after viral video of him eating one

Tunnock’s is sending a batch of teacakes to Hollywood star Ryan Gosling after a video of him eating one went viral.

The Lanarkshire -based biscuit maker is desperately trying to make contact with the Canadian actor after the he picked their legendary treat in an online “snack wars” challenge. The Notebook star selected the chocolate covered, marshmallow biscuit over a Nanaimo bar from his home country.

The challenge was filmed by online news site Lad Bible before being watched almost a million times on Tik Tok. After his first bite of teacake Gosling, 41, said: “Wow.”

The family-owned company are now hopeful he could even visit their factory.

Sales manager Fergus Loudon said: “We currently have feelers out to get contact details for Ryan to send him some packs of Teacake along with a few other Tunnock’s goodies. We still have restrictions in place regarding visitors to the factory, but we will see what happens if he gets in touch.”

During the challenge Gosling, who is the star of new Netflix action thriller The Gray Man, selected the Teacake saying that everyone should have their own strategy to eat one. However he was left confused when he was handed the box of Tunnock’s Teacakes without a cup of tea.

He said: “Where’s the tea? Is it supposed to go with tea? Is that part of its charm? It seems like it’s pretty vital to the teacakes. It’s just a cake.”

But after breaking through the teacake’s chocolate top with his finger, he admitted he was hooked and picked it over its Canadian opponent. Gosling said:“I’m liking this part of it. I’m going to go with this one.

“You can destroy it and then enjoy it.”

Gosling also sampled a section of other popular British snacks including Monster Munch. The eight-minute clip has racked up more 900,000 views.

Tunnock’s, founded in 1890, is one of the oldest family owned firms in Scotland. The teacake was developed by Sir Boyd Tunnock in 1956 and continues to be manufactured from their Uddingston factory.

Tunnock’s is also home to the Classic Snowball and Caramel Log which were created in the 1950s. Gosling is also set to star as Ken in the eagerly anticipated Barbie movie opposite Margot Robbie,32, which is due for release in July next year.

The A-Lister has been in a relationship with fellow actor Eva Mendes, 48, since September 2011 after they met working together on The Place Beyond The Pines. They share daughters Esmeralda, seven, and six-year-old Amada.
