Trump Border Czar Threatens to Ramp Up Workplace Raids Just Hours After Accepting New Job

Donald Trump's newly appointed "border czar" has announced plans to increase workplace immigration raids as part of a broad crackdown, highlighting the Trump administration's enforcement approach.

With Trump's re-election, Tom Homan is expected to lead a rigorous immigration enforcement agenda, focusing on conducting widespread workplace raids targeting undocumented workers, The Hill reported.

Homan claimed the raids will prioritize "public safety threats," though many critics and advocates argue the strategy could be harmful to workers and families more than criminal networks.

"When we go out there we're gonna know who we're looking for, we most likely know where they're going to be and it's gonna be done in a humane manner," Homan said, as reported by NPR.

Homan served as acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) under Trump. During that time, he implemented the administration's controversial "zero tolerance" policy that separated more than 5,500 children from their families at the U.S.-Mexico border.

Since then, Homan has been vocal about reinstating strict immigration policies, including plans for aggressive deportation measures.

As Homan assumes his role, legal battles and protests are expected as forms of resistance from immigrant rights groups, local governments and advocacy organizations.

"He's conflating the traffickers with the people being trafficked," Heidi Altman, director of federal advocacy at the National Immigration Law Center, told The Hill. "Tom Homan is skilled at using public safety rhetoric to justify vicious tactics that tear families apart."
