Tributes pour in for 'beautiful' Scots search and rescue dog

TRIBUTES have been pouring in for a dog called Diesel who served as a search and rescue animal in the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.

The Springer Spaniel hung up his protective boots two years ago having joined the UK International Search and Rescue team in 2012.

He then joined the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service in 2015.

A post on a Facebook page dedicated to Diesel and two other rescue dogs named Mac and Coorie read: “Unfortunately we have to announce that Diesel’s collar was removed for the last time today.

“He is at peace now but his memory will live on from what he has done for SFRS & UK ISAR.

“Stand down Diesel boy your work is done. Sleep well.”

Diesel was deployed to Nepal in 2015 after an earthquake hit the country. Many were left devastated by the news and paid tribute to the dog on social media.

One Facebook user said: “What a gorgeous and brave boy, RIP Diesel” while another added “What a beautiful dog, fly high”.

Another added: “So sorry to read this… brave boy. Run free”. One person wrote: “So sad. Play happily over the rainbow bridge Diesel, beautiful boy. Sending love and hugs to all who knew and worked with you.”
