A British man who died following a lightning strike while on holiday in Greece has been named as 26-year-old Scott Seddon. The tourist, from Liverpool, was reportedly paddleboarding when a bolt landed near him in the Agia Agathi area of Rhodes on Monday afternoon.
Greek media outlet Rodiaki said the sad incident happened shortly before 1.30pm local time on Monday. The report said Mr Seddon was on the paddleboard in the sea when a bolt of lightning struck a short distance from where he was.
Emergency services rushed to the scene and with the help of a 47-year-old local resident, Mr Seddon was taken to land where rescuers fought to try and keep him alive.
Speaking to Rodiaki, the local resident said: "I was worried that the same thing would happen to me as it was still raining but I didn't stop.
"The rescuers arrived shortly afterwards and performed all the resuscitation procedures to keep him alive. Unfortunately, I found out a little later that he didn't make it."
It is understood Mr Seddon was taken to the Archangelos Health Centre, where medics desperately tried to resuscitate him, but he sadly died.
It has been widely reported today that Mr Seddon was from Liverpool. He has been described as a 'lovely guy' in those same reports, according to the LiverpoolEcho.
