A TREE fell onto a railway line and caught fire as Storm Gerrit brings widespread travel disruption to Scotland.
In a statement, Network Rail said it was “responding to a tree on the line in the Dumbarton area”.
It added: “The tree is blocking the line and has caught fire, which is affecting overhead lines. The line is currently closed whilst we gain access to remove the tree and extinguish the fire.”
ScotRail said that services on the line would be “subject to cancellation and alteration at this time”.
Meanwhile, speed restrictions will be in place across Scotland’s rail network on Wednesday December 27 as Storm Gerrit brings heavy rain and snow.
In an update posted on social media this morning, ScotRail said restrictions had been introduced while people were encouraged to leave “extra time” for travelling.
The operator said people should use its app, website or journey check pages for the latest travel information.
Elsewhere, Network Rail Scotland also issued an update on which routes speed restrictions are currently in place on.

In a statement, Network Rail added: “We’re asking anyone with garden equipment such as tents, trampolines or furniture, to please secure items so that they don’t blow on to the tracks and put people in danger.
“If you’re planning to travel today, take the time to check your journey with your operator before heading out. We’ll continue to keep you updated.”
