Tragedy at Port Stephens beach as man dies after being pulled from water

A man has died after being found unresponsive in the water at a popular Port Stephens beach on Monday.

Emergency services were called to One Mile beach at about 11.15am after members of the public pulled an unconscious man from the water.

Several members of the public performed CPR on the 69-year-old man before NSW Ambulance paramedics also treated him, but he could not be revived.

Officers attached to the Port Stephens/Hunter Police District have begun enquiries into the incident and will prepare a report for the Coroner.
