Traffickers trap Kolkata girl on social media

KOLKATA: Cops rescued a 16-year-old girl of Tangra - who was taken to Faizabad in UP and about to be sold to a brothel in Delhi by her trafficker, Rohan Singh (19) - with the help of the leads obtained from a social media platform on Wednesday.

The Class-X student was tricked into a relationship through social media. Singh, the kingpin of the trafficking racket, was arrested. The accused and the victim were brought to Kolkata on Thursday.

The accused had asked the girl to come to Sultanpur and sent her a train ticket. She left home last week, telling her parents that she was going to school. As she did not return, her family lodged a complaint. "She was a regular user of Instagram, where we got the photos of the accused. She had managed to send a message to her mother that she was held captive by four persons. With the help of UP police, we rescued her," said an officer.
