Tottenham news: Spurs handed David Raya chance as Daniel Levy given Arne Slot green light

Here is your Tottenham Hotspur morning digest on Tuesday, May 16.

Raya decision

Tottenham have been handed a huge boost to their hopes of signing David Raya following Brentford's latest activity in the transfer market. The 27-year-old goalkeeper faces an increasingly uncertain future at the Gtech Community Stadium, with his contract set to expire at the end of next season.

According to German publication Bild, Bees are in 'advanced talks' to sign Mark Flekken from SC Freiburg. The report states that the negotiations are in the final stage and Brentford will activate his €13million (£11.3m) release clause once an agreement on personal terms has been reached.

It's said that Flekken will replace Raya, with the Spaniard expected to leave this summer. With Spurs in the market for new shot-stopper, Thomas Frank has already conceded that his shot-stopper could leave for at least £40m.

Conte dig

Antonio Conte, who left Tottenham by mutual agreement in March following a rollercoaster 16-month reign, appears to be enjoying the Gunners' title collapse as he watches on from afar. That's if his social media activity is anything to go by at least.

The Italian liked a CBS Sports Golazo Instagram post on Sunday evening which showed a picture of Mikel Arteta as well as Arsenal's results over the past seven matches. With the Gunners winning just two of those seven games, the post caption read: "Arsenal failed to show up when it mattered."

Arteta and Conte have not always seen eye to eye and the Italian's latest subtle dig perhaps shows what the two coaches think of each other. After Tottenham's 3-0 victory over the Gunners back in May 2022, a result that helped the Lilywhites finish above their local rivals and pip them to a top-four finish and Champions League qualification, Arteta voiced his concerns on the officiating during the match.

Vorm endorses Slot appointment

Former Tottenham goalkeeper Michel Vorm told football.london that he believes Feyenoord boss Arne Slot would be a good fit to help his former club get back on the up. He said: "It's been a very difficult season. You hope that they could have turned it around in the last couple of matches but it's been very tough.

"The last couple of games, Brentford and Leeds, you just hope they finish as strongly as possible but we'll see. I think this whole season has had a lot of ups and downs and it's just one of those seasons."

When asked whether his compatriot Slot was ready as a potential next manager for a Premier League club such as Spurs, Vorm had little doubt.

He added: "I think he's ready. He showed that, because I know the Dutch league well and what he's done before, and I speak with a lot of players in Holland, and over the years at AZ and now at Feyenoord how positive they are about him and the style of play, how he communicates and treats all the players and they have done so well."
