Tottenham may be handed Gleison Bremer boost as Alessandro Bastoni makes transfer decision

Tottenham's pursuit of Gleison Bremer may have been boosted, with Alessandro Bastoni's plans to stay at Inter Milan seemingly confirmed on Wednesday. The Italian's representatives explained that he would "definitely stay" at Inter and the defender took to Instagram and commented love hearts, potentially confirming the decision.

football.london had been reporting that Bastoni was one player on Spurs' radar. The 23-year-old would've added quality to Antonio Conte's squad, as well as the duo reuniting, after the time they spent together at Inter.

However the deal looked a more difficult one to secure, as the defender is reportedly very happy with his current club. The hope that the Lilywhites had, of getting Bastoni, was Inter's pursuit of Bremer.

Reports suggested Inter wanted the 25-year-old, but would need funds to secure a deal, which could've been raised by them selling Bastoni to Tottenham. However now the Italian seems likely to remain in his home country, this could provide Spurs with a boost.

The current Torino player has been linked with a move to north London previously. Bremer made 33 Serie A appearances last season, scoring three goals and registering an assist, starting in all of his features.

The Brazilian has made over 100 appearances for the Italian side he has played for since 2018. Bremer's teammate, Mergim Vojvoda sung the praises of the Tottenham target in March.

"[Bremer] is very strong, an animal. He has made an incredible leap in quality in the last year," Vojvoda admitted. "But he can still improve a lot because he is young. He has renewed, we hope he stays because he is really strong.

"He works hard and as soon as I arrived, I was impressed by how much he trained. He is also fast, he is tall and has made a great leap in quality on a technical level, with the ball at his feet. Work pays off, you can see it with him," the 27-year-old added.

Bremer himself has also handed Conte a boost if he were to make the move to N17, when he made an admission on his favoured set-up, earlier this year.

"I prefer a three-man defence because it’s in line with the system with which I’ve consecrated myself. I’ve learned how to use my head on the pitch. It’s not a natural quality, you must learn it. You need to understand when it’s the right time to press and when you need track back," the 25-year-old explained, as reported by the Liverpool Echo.

"You don’t only play with strength or interceptions. It’s more complex. You also need to know your opponents well. If the striker is slow, you must remain close to him and try to get on the ball before him."

These comments not only highlight Bremer's clear knowledge, but also that he would be able to slot into the Italian's formation at Tottenham. As Vojvoda explained, there are still improvements for the Brazilian to make.

However since Conte's arrival, there have been major improvements seen in a number of the Spurs players' performances. Therefore if Bremer did move to N17, this could be the same case for the defender.

Not only that, the 25-year-old would give the Italian options for rotation in his back line and help solve the squad depth problem in the Tottenham squad. According to CIES, the Brazilian is valued up to £17million and with ENIC's recent £150million investment, this wouldn't use a massive amount of the money.

Spurs may have been handed a further boost as Italian journalist, Gian Luca Rossi made the following admission on Wednesday. "It is no mystery that Antonio Conte likes Bastoni," he explained.

"Conte is ready to put a spoke in the wheel at Inter. The message that Conte sent to Inter is more or less: if don't leave me Bastoni, I'm going for Bremer."

Only time will tell if this is Conte's next step, but the Brazilian's qualities could make him a good addition to the Spurs squad.
