Tottenham make £37.6m Luis Diaz 'proposal' as transfer battle with Liverpool hots up

Tottenham have reportedly made an "official proposal" for Porto attacker Luis Diaz, thought to be the region of €45million (£37.6million), with the Portuguese club having 48 hours to respond.

The 25-year-old, who has two-and-a-half years remaining on his contract at the Estadio do Dragao, has been in sparkling form in the Portuguese top-flight this season - scoring 14 goals and providing five assists in 18 league matches.

Such form has now earned Diaz links with Spurs, with Antonio Conte wanting a wide-man before the transfer window reaches its conclusion next Monday.

There are talks ongoing between Tottenham and Wolves for Adama Traore, football.london understands, but Diaz is now said to be a target.

However, this could trigger Liverpool into action. The Reds, according to a report from the Athletic earlier this month, are not plotting a move for Diaz during this window, but are indeed admirers of the Colombian winger.

What has Diaz said on his future?

Speaking about his future last summer, Diaz insisted he was happy at Porto and saw himself there for the time being as he continues to progress as a footballer.

He said : "I chose FC Porto because of everything that happened with the Colombians who were at the club, they have always done nice things.

"The idea is to keep growing at FC Porto. My manager just tells me if there are parties involved or not, I don't know any of that."

Where would he fit in under Conte?

Diaz is a fantastic finisher - as can be seen by his statistics this season in front of goal - while his dribbling and passing are two big strengths.

The winger has played the majority of his games this season on the left-hand side, allowing him to cut in on his lethal right foot.

His speed would allow him to play in a front two alongside Harry Kane or Son Heung-min, with Conte often using a couple of players through the middle in attack.

Conte does have plenty of options in similar positions, but the likes of Steven Bergwijn has been linked with an exit from north London this month.

While it looks unlikely Bergwijn will leave before next Monday's deadline, adding another attacker to his ranks will definitely not harm Conte's chances of landing a Champions League spot with Spurs this season.
