A routine F-16 training mission ended with a fighter jet crashing in rural northern Michigan on Thursday, forcing authorities to order an evacuation within a one-mile radius of the wreckage.

The pilot ejected from the aircraft and was taken to hospital in stable condition, according to a spokesperson for the 149th Fighter Wing, while officials said no other injuries had been reported.
