Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea LIVE: Premier League result, final score and reaction

A general view of Tottenham Hotspur Stadium - (Getty Images)

Follow live coverage as Tottenham Hotspur face Chelsea today in the Premier League. Another top-flight season will be covered in full right here with The Independent, as reigning champions Manchester City look to make it an unprecedented five titles in a row come the end of 2024/25.

The likes of Arsenal and Liverpool will be chasing Pep Guardiola's side, but just as fascinating will be the race for Champions League places, with more teams than ever before having designs on top-four finishes. Chelsea remain big-spending, Manchester United's latest rebuild continues and both Tottenham and Newcastle will expect improvements this year - yet it was Aston Villa who snared fourth last term.

Meanwhile, it's Southampton, Leicester City and Ipswich Town who made it back to the elite after promotion last year and each will have hope they can make it more than a one-year stay. Follow the latest live action from the Premier League below:

Tottenham Hotspur FC 3 - 4 Chelsea FC

Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea

18:33

The full-time whistle blows to bring a quite magnificent contest to an end with Chelsea claiming a 4-3 away victory over Tottenham. It was the hosts who started very brightly, with Solanke putting them ahead after just five minutes before Kulusevski made it 2-0 just six minutes later. Chelsea responded, however, first halving the deficit through Sancho's brilliant long-range strike before Palmer levelled from the spot just after the hour mark. Fernandez completed the turnaround with a thunderous effort, before another Palmer penalty put the game beyond Spurs, despite Son pulling a goal back deep into stoppage time. It's a win that moves Chelsea just four points behind leaders Liverpool, though they have played a game more than the Reds, while Spurs and under-fire Postecoglou remain 11th. These sides are both in European action next time out on Thursday, when Tottenham will travel to take on Rangers while Chelsea will visit Astana. That's all we have for you from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, so thanks for your company and goodbye!

Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea

18:25

Porro lashes a free-kick straight at the wall before firing a deflected effort wide of the left post. To their credit, Spurs are having a go.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea

18:24

Sanchez preserves his team's two-goal advantage by racing out of his goal to snuff out Son's effort. It looks like it's too little, too late for Spurs.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea

18:22

HIT THE TARGET! Werner feeds the ball to Maddison on the edge of the box, and the former Leicester City man tries to pick out the top left corner. It's a terrible effort from the substitute, and the ball flies high and wide into the stands.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea

18:20

There will be seven minutes of additional time at the end of this thrilling contest.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea

18:12

CHELSEA HAVE ANOTHER PENALTY!!! Chelsea hit Spurs on the counter, but it appears the attack has lost momentum when Sancho can't put Palmer through on goal. Eventually he does get it to Palmer, who is inexplicably sent tumbling to the turf by Sarr with the Chelsea man heading away from goal. It's another daft challenge, and Palmer will have the chance to kill this game off...

Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea

18:12

Penalty Goal Cole Jermaine Palmer

Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea

18:10

If they can see this out, Chelsea would be the first team to come from two or more goals behind to win a London derby in the Premier League since Arsenal beat Tottenham 5-2 in February 2012.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea

18:08

Van de Ven is indeed forced off, with Gray on in his place. When it rains, it pours for Postecoglou and Tottenham.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea

18:08

Substitution Yves Bissouma Lucas Erik Holger Bergvall

Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea

18:08

Substitution Dejan Kulusevski James Daniel Maddison

Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea

18:06

Things might get even worse for Spurs here with Van de Ven down. Romero has already gone off injured, and it looks like Postecoglou's other first-choice centre-back will also have to take his leave.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea

18:06

Nkunku is on for Jackson as Maresca freshens up his attack.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea

18:06

This will do absolutely nothing to alleviate the pressure on Postecoglou. It appeared his team was well on the way to three huge points when they were 2-0 up, but it looks like they have thrown it away.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea

18:02

Goal Enzo Jeremías Fernández

Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea

18:01

Van de Ven gets up well to meet Porro's free-kick delivery from the right, though he can only nod well wide of the target. To their credit, the Spurs response to Chelsea's leveller has been solid.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea

17:59

Palmer has been directly involved in 37 Premier League goals in 2024 (24 goals, 13 assists), now the outright most in a calendar year by a Chelsea player in the competition.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea

17:57

It has now been 30 minutes since Tottenham last attempted a shot in this game. Their attacking threat has completely dwindled, and it's Chelsea who now look the more likely to go on and win the game.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea

17:55

Now it's Tottenham's turn to find a response. They've been criticised for their mental fragility of late, and it appears those problems have come back to haunt them again.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea

17:52

Palmer now holds the joint-best 100% penalty conversion record in Premier League history (11/11 - level with Yaya Toure).

Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea

17:49

Penalty Goal Cole Jermaine Palmer

Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea

17:49

PENALTY TO CHELSEA!!! Sancho feeds the ball into the path of Caicedo, who latches onto the pass in the box. Bissouma comes flying in and makes a ridiculous challenge, wiping out Caicedo and giving the referee no chance but to point to the spot. This is a huge chance for Chelsea to level!

Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea

17:48

Yellow Card Yves Bissouma

Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea

17:46

Gusto stings the palms of Forster with a ferocious long-range effort as Chelsea again threaten. The Spurs goalkeeper could be in for a busy remaining 33 or so minutes.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea

17:45

Postecoglou won't be best pleased with how his team have started this second half, and he may look to make further changes to try and stem the tide that's been visible since the restart.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea

17:41

Substitution Brennan Price Johnson Timo Werner

Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea

17:41

JUST WIDE! Cucurella lays the ball back for Fernandez, who looks to pick out the far corner with a curling effort. Unfortunately for Chelsea, the ball doesn't quite bend enough and flies just past the right post. This has been a really strong start to the second half for the visitors, though they remain behind.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea

17:39

Deputising for the injured Guglielmo Vicario, Forster has made numerous excellent saves in this game to protect his side's lead.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea

17:38

CHANCE! Chelsea are nearly level moments after the restart, with Sancho linking up with Cucurella. The ball ends up at the feet of the former Manchester United winger, but his poke goalwards from close range is tipped away by Forster.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea

17:34

The visitors get the ball rolling again for the second period.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea

17:33

Substitution Roméo Lavia Malo Arthur Gusto

Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea

17:23

Spurs will likely feel they should have a bigger lead, creating 1.3 xG (expected goals) to Chelsea's 0.63 in that first half. This game is going against the form table, and Postecoglou will be hoping his side can see this match out for what would be a huge three points.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea

17:21

The half-time whistle blows to bring a brilliant opening 45 minutes to a conclusion with the scoreline 2-1 to Tottenham against Chelsea. They were ahead after just five minutes, Solanke turning home after Johnson seized upon Cucurella's slip. Incredibly, Cucurella again tumbled to the turf just six minutes later, allowing Porro to feed Kulusevski before the winger cut in and fired into the bottom corner. Chelsea needed a response. and they got that with a fantastic Sancho strike from range to leave the game finely poised at the break.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea

17:18

HALF-TIME: TOTTENHAM 2-1 CHELSEA

Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea

17:18

Kulusevski catches Lavia with an elbow as the pair challenge for the ball in midfield. He is also perhaps a little lucky to avoid any punishment whatsoever.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea

17:17

There will be two minutes of additional time at the end of what has been a very lively first half.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea

17:17

A running theme of this game has been delays prior to Chelsea corner kicks, as Spurs fans throw cards from the pre-match crowd display at the corner taker.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea

17:14

WHAT A TACKLE! Filling in after Romero went off injured, Dragusin saves Spurs with a vital intervention. Palmer plays a throughball into the path of Jackson, who looks like he has done just enough to hold off Dragusin and get a shot away. However, at the crucial moment, Dragusin slides in to make a quite brilliant tackle, diverting the ball out for a corner.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea

17:11

Spurs will feel they should be further ahead than they are considering the chances they've had. Chelsea will surely improve after the break, and that one-goal leads look fragile.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea

17:09

Tottenham have won just one of their last 11 Premier League games against Chelsea (two draws, eight defeats), picking up a 2-0 home win in February 2023. They're on course to improve that poor recent record, however.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea

17:09

Solanke now should score as he receives the ball just yards out from goal after a neat pass by Son. The striker can't seem to get his feet sorted however, and he can only nudge the ball harmlessly into the hands of Sanchez.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea

17:07

OFF THE BAR!!! Sarr rises highest in the box to meet a Son corner delivery from the left, bu he can only send his header off the top of the crossbar and over for a goal-kick. That's a huge chance for Spurs!

Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea

17:05

Caicedo is a very lucky boy to avoid any punishment after catching Sarr on the ankle with his studs. Quite how he's not even been booked there is a bit of a mystery.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea

17:05

FORSTER TO THE RESCUE! Palmer has far too much space, and it opens up for him to smash goalwards from just outside the box. His effort flies towards the bottom corner, only for Forster to leap to his left to save. He palms it to Neto, who cuts in and tries to squeeze one in at the near post, but Forster is again there to make the stop.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea

17:01

Sarr goes in the book for catching Cucurella with a late challenge.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea

17:00

It's been a frenzied game so far, and you'd imagine both managers will be hoping their respective teams can exert a bit more control on proceedings. It looked like Spurs could run away with it after Kulusevski made it 2-0, but the Chelsea response has been decent.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea

16:58

If Romero ends up missing more time, that'll be a serious blow for Spurs. Tottenham have averaged 1.63 points per game across their eight previous Premier League matches this season when Van de Ven and Romero have both started, compared to 1.17 points across their other six games this term.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea

16:55

CLOSE! Son nearly restores Spurs' two-goal advantage as he gets in down the left before cutting in and firing goalwards. Unfortunately for the hosts, the winger's strike ends up flying over the crossbar.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea

16:52

Yellow Card Roméo Lavia

Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea

16:51

This game is Sancho's 67th Premier League appearance, and his goal here means he has now scored in two matches in a row in the competition for the very first time.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea

16:49

Assist Marc Cucurella Saseta

Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea

16:48

Goal Jadon Malik Sancho

Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea

16:46

Substitution Cristian Gabriel Romero Radu Matei Drăgușin

Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea

16:46

It's nearly 3-0 as Chelsea again look a mess at the back. The ball is worked to Udogie, but he can only flash wide of the right post through a crowded penalty area. The visitors are all at sea.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea

16:42

Assist Pedro Antonio Porro Sauceda

Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea

16:41

Chelsea are yet to get going, perhaps a surprise considering their strong recent form. Their star man Palmer has barely had a kick to this point.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea

16:39

That was Tottenham's earliest ever Premier League goal against Chelsea, coming after just four minutes and 45 seconds. It's been some start for the hosts and just what they needed considering their recent patchy form.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea

16:37

Assist Brennan Price Johnson

Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea

16:36

Goal Dominic Ayodele Solanke-Mitchell

Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea

16:34

It's been a lively start to proceedings with both sides looking to get on the front foot. There's plenty of attacking talent on display, and surely we can expect goals in this one.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea

16:31

The hosts kick us off and we are under way at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium!

Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea

16:28

The two teams enter the field ahead of this Premier League London derby!

Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea

16:28

Maresca rang the changes for Chelsea's 5-1 thumping of struggling Southampton in midweek, and he does the same here as he returns to what is probably close to his first-choice starting XI. Sanchez is in for Jorgensen between the sticks, while Colwill and Badiashile will start at centre-half. Lavia comes in for Gusto with Caicedo shifting to right-back, while Neto, Sancho and Jackson will start in attack.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea

16:23

Postecoglou makes three changes from the side that started the disappointing defeat at the Vitality Stadium, welcoming the returns of Van de Ven and Romero at centre-back as Dragusin drops to the bench, while Ben Davies misses out altogether with an injury. Son also starts in place of Maddison.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea

16:07

On the other hand, Chelsea seem to have left their inconsistent ways of recent campaigns behind them, and a victory on the road here will move them to within four points of leaders Liverpool at the top of the Premier League. Mauricio Pochettino's sacking and Enzo Maresca's subsequent arrival ahead of this season faced scrutiny, but those changes seem to be paying dividends so far.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea

16:07

Inconsistency has plagued yet another season for Tottenham, following up a stunning 4-0 win away at champions Manchester City with a three-game winless streak in all competitions. The most recent of those matches was a 1-0 defeat away at Bournemouth in midweek, with manager Ange Postecoglou involved in a confrontation with some of the travelling contingent following the final whistle. That loss has them heading into this game in 11th.
