Tottenham Hotspur FC 4 - 1 Aston Villa FC
Tottenham Hotspur vs Aston Villa
16:08Solanke’s brace helped Tottenham to complete a second-half comeback to beat Aston Villa 4-1 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The hosts had found themselves 1-0 down at the break after Rogers had finished from a corner after 31 minutes, but Villa should have been weary. Since the start of last season, Tottenham have gone on to win 10 Premier League matches in which they conceded the first goal, the joint-most of any team in the competition, along with Manchester City, winning three of their last four in which they've gone 0-1 down. Johnson started the comeback when he tapped home the equaliser off Son’s cross four minutes after the break before Solanke’s double put Tottenham in the driving seat. With 10 minutes added time, there was still a chance of a Villa comeback with Duran on the pitch, but Maddison quashed any remaining hope as he curled home a free-kick from the edge of the box in stoppage time for his 50th Premier League goal. It saw Spurs finish with 2.63 xG while Villa underperformed their xG with a total of 1.85.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Aston Villa
15:03Rogers’ goal makes the difference as Aston Villa lead 1-0 against Tottenham Hotspur at the break. The hosts had looked the more dangerous throughout the first half but failed to trouble Martinez in goal with their chances. Instead, Villa hit the post through Onana before Rogers broke the deadlock from a corner in the 31st minute. Despite 15 shots being taken in the first 45 minutes, only one has been on target and that has led to a goal. Villa also lead on expected goals (xG) at the break with 1.3 xG, while Spurs have just 0.2 xG.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Aston Villa
14:45WATKINS FIRES WIDE! Play opens up for Villa and Rogers threads Watkins in behind the Spurs defence with the striker seemingly having a clear sight of goal. Instead he skews the shot wildly wide of the far post. The Englishman has struggled to get into this game so far.
Tottenham Hotspur vs Aston Villa
14:43That goal from a corner means Villa have now scored five goals from set-pieces (excl. pens) in the Premier League this season, with no team scoring more (Arsenal also with five).

Tottenham Hotspur vs Aston Villa

Tottenham Hotspur vs Aston Villa

14:13A lot of the action is happening in the middle of the park at the moment, with both teams struggling to get a sight of goal.
Tottenham Hotspur vs Aston Villa
14:09Son plays a cross into the box from the left, but it's low and blocked by the first man. It takes an awkward deflection, however, looping into the air and drops to Porro at the top right corner of the box who lashes a wild shot high and wide of goal to jeers from the travelling fans.
Tottenham Hotspur vs Aston Villa
14:06Tielemans sends a cross in from the right with Watkins making the run into the centre of the box. It looks within his reach, but the striker can't get a foot to it, and instead, it sails out the other side of the box. That was an early warning for Spurs.

13:58Son, who makes his return from injury today, has been involved in nine goals in eight Premier League games against Aston Villa (6 goals, 3 assists), though all six of his goals against them have come at Villa Park. No player has scored more against an opponent without netting a home goal in the competition. Is the writing on the wall for him to right that record today?
Tottenham Hotspur vs Aston Villa
13:58Villa make 10 changes from their heavily rotated EFL Cup squad that lost to Palace midweek, with only John McGinn starting both fixtures. Mings returns to their Premier League squad having started in the cup midweek and Kamara is also back in contention on the bench. It leaves Emery without any injury concerns as he travels to north London.
Tottenham Hotspur vs Aston Villa
13:53Postecoglou opts to make three changes to the side that triumphed over City midweek, the most significant of which sees the return of captain and star player Son. It means Werner drops to the bench in attack. The hosts did encounter fresh injury worries as Micky van de Ven misses out against Villa due to a hamstring injury he sustained in the EFL Cup game. Dragusin replaces him in defence while Porro also replaces Gray in the third change. Spurs are also without Wilson Odobert and Djed Spence through injury.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Aston Villa
13:38Despite sitting in fifth in the Premier League table, Unai Emery’s side have also experienced mixed fortunes in the league recently. The Villains have similarly picked up just one win in their last two games, though they have drawn the other two. Last time out they drew 1-1 with an in-form Bournemouth side after seeing Ross Barkley’s opener cancelled out by Evanilson in the 96th minute. The West Midlands outfit also fell to defeat midweek to see their EFL Cup aspirations crushed as Crystal Palace defeated them 2-1 at Villa Park.
Tottenham Hotspur vs Aston Villa
13:38Ange Postecoglou’s side currently sit in tenth in the Premier League, having won just one of their last three matches in the league, losing the other two. Last time out they fell to a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Crystal Palace at Selhurst as the usually attacking style of play employed by the north London side seemed to be without ideas. They did, however, pull off an impressive 2-1 victory over reigning Premier League champions Manchester City midweek in the EFL Cup in front of a home crowd and will hope for a repeat of that performance today.
