Tottenham confirm two arrests after Burnley clash for discriminatory gestures

Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed two visiting fans have been arrested for discriminatory gestures on Sunday following the clash against Burnley. The arrests come after a video on social media went viral allegedly showing a fan making a discriminatory gesture.

Following the announcement, the club are set to support the police in the following investigation. It comes shortly after Spurs managed to edge out the Clarets in a tense game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The match was made that much tougher for the home side, with a number of key players being dealt an illness in the run up to it. That included the likes of Dejan Kulusevski, who was not involved, and captain Hugo Lloris, who managed to brave playing, despite the bout he had to deal with.

While the Lilywhites dominated the ball, they weren't able to find a breakthrough until deep into first-half stoppage time. A ball thrown into the box struck the outstretched arm of Ashley Barnes, with VAR deciding that was enough to award a penalty.

Harry Kane stepped up and reliably slotted the ball home to take the lead. While Spurs had chances to extend their advantage, they couldn't, and had to see out a nervous victory come the end.

It was a win that boss Antonio Conte believed was "very important", saying in his post-match press conference: "Don’t forget we played two days ago and in a tough game against Arsenal and don't forget before Arsenal we played in Anfield against Liverpool and you know very well that in this type of game you spend a lot of energy not only in the physical aspect but also a lot mentally aspect. It was very important for us today to take the three points but I think we created the chances to score more goals."

Spurs now move into fourth in the league, two points ahead of North London rivals Arsenal, who have one game in hand.
