Todd Boehly has warmly welcomed Frank Lampard back to Stamford Bridge as caretaker manager until the end of the season. The club's all-time top scorer replaces Bruno Saltor in the role.
The decision to bring Lampard back in, after he was sacked by Roman Abramovich in 2021, comes with Graham Potter being dismissed from the head coach role on Sunday following the 2-0 defeat to Aston Villa.
Potter's position came untenable after the Blues dropped into the bottom half of the table despite Boehly and Co spending over £600m on new signings since their takeover in May 2022.

The former Brighton man was handed a five year contract in September but only lasted seven months before having his tenure at SW6 cut short. Lampard's appointment on a temporary basis now gives the club more time to streamline their process of finding a new permanent head coach.
Upon the announcement of Lampard's return, Boehly and co-owner Behdad Eghbali wrote: "We are delighted to welcome Frank back to Stamford Bridge. Frank is a Premier League Hall of Famer and a legend at this club. As we continue our thorough and exhaustive process for a permanent head coach, we want to provide the club and our fans with a clear and stable plan for the remainder of the season. We want to give ourselves every chance of success and Frank has all of the characteristics and qualities we need to drive us to the finish line.
"We have an important game against Wolves on Saturday and then we will turn our attention to our Champions League quarter-final in Madrid next week. We are all going to give Frank our full backing as we aim to get the best possible outcome from all our remaining games."
Lampard managed Chelsea for just over 18 months between 2019 and 2021 before being replaced by Thomas Tuchel. He will now be in charge for the reaming 9 league games as well as any progress made in the Champions League.
