Titans place David Long on IR among several roster moves

The Tennessee Titans made a plethora of roster moves prior to their AFC South showdown against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 14 on Sunday.

Undoubtedly the most impactful of the transactions was Tennessee placing starting linebacker David Long Jr. on the injured reserve list with a hamstring injury.

The West Virginia product will now miss at least the next four games, which means he won’t be eligible to return until Week 18, but that also allows him to return for the Titans’ playoff run as long as the team doesn’t choke that away over the next month.

With Long on injured reserve, now both of the Titans’ starting linebackers are on the list after Zach Cunningham was placed on it last month.

Aside from that move, the Titans promoted three players to their 53-man roster, activated two players off injured reserve, parted ways with two other players, and elevated a pair of from the practice squad for Sunday’s game.

Those moves are as follows:

McMath is the other addition to the receivers room. The second-year pro shined as a deep threat in training camp and the preseason and could lend a hand in the return game.

Promoted to active roster: WR Chris Conley

The Titans needed depth with both Treylon Burks and C.J. Board out for Week 14. Conley has played in two games for Tennessee this season.

Promoted to active roster: LB Jack Gibbens

Syndication: The Tennessean

A 2022 UDFA signing, Gibbens has spent the entire year on the practice squad. With the Titans so short at the position, Dr. Gibby could work himself into a regular role.

Promoted to active roster: CB Greg Mabin

Mabin has had multiple stints with the Titans over the last few years. He’ll serve as depth in Tennessee’s injury-riddled secondary.

Released: DL Larrell Murchison

Murchison was just signed to an extension through the 2023 season after the Titans used up all his elevations. So much for that, although it’s possible he’s brought back on the practice squad.

Released: OL Jordan Roos

Roos was the last offensive lineman off the bench and had only seen special teams snaps this season. Don’t be surprised if he’s brought back on the practice squad.

Activated from IR: DB Josh Thompson

Like Mabin, Thompson will serve as depth with the Titans having several injuries to their secondary.

Elevated from the practice squad: RB Julius Chestnut

With Hassan Haskins questionable, Chestnut would serve as the No. 3 back if he sits. Chestnut was elevated in Week 13, also, with Haskins ruled out.

Elevated from the practice squad: Davontae Harris

Harris will be a depth option for Tennessee. Whether or not he sees the field or is even active remains to be seen.
